Literacy Action of Central Arkansas

Presents Shine a Light on  Literacy

LACA will “light up the night” of Feb. 19 with a glittering event. A special silent auction will cast an even brighter light on LACA’s important work as dozens of
Arkansas artists create unique works of art from simple utilitarian lamps.

Literacy Action of Central Arkansas (LACA) is a volunteer-driven
organization that teaches illiterate adults to read, and teaches oral
and written English to non-native speakers. LACA provides services
that change lives, families and our community. LACA enables
personal empowerment for hundreds of individuals through direct,
one-on-one experiential training.

When I first picked up that tired old ginger jar style lamp from LACA, I thought what have I gotten myself into??  But with a little imagination, I turned the lamp into something fun and had so much fun in the process, that I went out and purchased a second lamp to redesign.   I had a great time making these lamps for the auction and hope they will provide a fun, whimsical and artistic touch to someone's home.  Be sure to come out and bid on some great artists redesigned lamps and help raise money for LACA.

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
