img_2623I just heard back that my submission was accepted into “A Pinch and a Dash” exhibition up in New York.  My piece was titled "Effie's Cookin' Grits".  A piece inspired by my childhood.  I borrowed the name from Miss Effie, an elderly neighbor.

The Smithtown Township Arts Council will present A Pinch and A Dash Exhibit, seeking to examine the American woman's changing role in the kitchen, from rural times when a woman's biscuits defined her reputation, to twentieth century ready -made preparation. This exhibit calls for works that exemplify women’s role in the kitchen or reveal how this role has changed to meet new challenges of American society, from providing sustenance for the family, to maintaining ethnic traditions to natural & organic awareness.

The juror was Dr. Connie Koppelman
Dr. Connie Koppelman received a BA in Art History and a Ph.D in Social and Intellectual History from SUNY Stony Brook and an MLS from Queens College. She was a Helena Rubenstein Fellow at the Whitney Museum of American Art and is an independent curator and speaker on the subjects of women's art, body art and Long Island artists. Koppelman currently teaches in the Women's Studies Program at SUNY Stony Brook, specializing in American women's history and women's art history.

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
