Hi. My name is Kristin Webb-Walker and I am the coordinator for the Grant County Ladies Night Out. Our next event will be held in Sheridan, AR at the Sheridan Recreation Center on October 22, 2009, and we are contacting Arkansas artists for their help in a special event that will go to raise money for our local charities.

This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever, and we’re including some very fun events for the community, and we need your help to be successful!

We are holding a new event that we’re calling, “Creative for the Cause,” and we’re asking area artists to donate one of their pieces to be auctioned throughout the evening to raise money for one of our local charities – we will let the artist choose the charity they wish to donate to. A list of available charities here in Grant County include:

-          Keeping the Faith, a shelter for battered women and children

-          Faith in Action, a nonprofit group that provides necessary home improvements and projects for needy families from roofing to cabinetry work, floor repairs and more, with work donated by local craftsmen who often donate their own materials as well

-          Spirit of Sharing, provides clothing and household items, furniture, etc. during crisis situations and provide a food bank; other times they provide a thrift store

-          Grant County United Way, provides support for a whole host of area services from food banks to childcare for low income families, to Boy and Girl Scouts and much more

-          Diamond Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross

-          Family Resource Center, oversees and/or works with several of the nonprofits listed above to provide a strong resource for assistance for families, in addition to help with utility bills, the Angel Tree program, etc.

-          Grant County Literacy Council providing a host of programs to the community to increase literacy in our county

Sheridan High School Art Instructor and artist Pat McClain will host the event in two segments on this evening. A preview will begin at 5 PM. All proceeds will go to the charity of the artist’s choice. We are asking for one piece (you can donate more than one if you’d like), a bio and a description of the artwork with the estimated value. As we get pieces donated, we will also be putting a copyrighted photo of that artwork up on the event’s website, with the bio and description/value. In addition, we will be providing numerous press releases to newspapers and television stations all across the state to bring in people from all over the state.

This is a wonderful way for our Arkansas artists to be recognized for their talents and of course, help with some very important community projects. This will also give Arkansans a chance to own some highly collectible and unique works of art!

In addition to this event, we’re also holding a Silent Auction for Keeping the Faith, a shelter here that provides assistance and support to battered women and their children. The shelter is a legal nonprofit and provides help to women and children in what may very well be their darkest hours.

We hope that you will consider being a part of this very special event. I can be reached here through email, or by calling me at (870) 942-2142 at The Sheridan Headlight, where I work as managing editor for the local newspaper.

Regards,

Kristin Webb-Walker

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
