102The fifth annual THEA Foundation dance workshop was held in Little Rock at UALR and at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville on October 17 and 18.  Students from as far away at Tulsa, Oklahoma attended the workshops hosted by professional dancer and instructor, Mr. Bill Hastings.

The 70 attendees learned technique and form in modern dance and ranged in age from 11 to 39.

Dance is an art form of athletics and builds character in many ways.  It demands a disciplined work ethic and tenacity to practice for perfection.  It 103also teaches respect, humility, and how to work well with others.  Most importantly, it instills confidence to perform in front of critics and audiences.

Next up for the THEA Foundation will be our three scholarship competitions:  Visual Arts, Performing Arts and Film/Video.  A total of

twenty four scholarships worth $60,000 will be awarded in 2010 for deserving Arkansas seniors, GED and home school students.

There are no grade point or other specific requirements necessary to compete for a THEA scholarship other than to be an Arkansas resident enrolled at the twelth grade level.  Winners can apply their scholarship toward the college major of their choice.

THEA believes all children can learn to believe in themselves, stay in school, graduate and become positive citizens.  The arts are a necessary and effective tool schools can use to accomplish quality education for ALL children.

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
