A reception will be held at 6 p.m. followed a lecture at 6:30 p.m. in the Arkansas Arts Center Lecture Hall. The Spotlight Lecture Series is sponsored by Gaye and Bob Anderson. Dr. Mary Morton, Curator of French Paintings at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., will present the lecture, providing context for the Arts Center’s recent acquisition of a seascape by Courbet. She will discuss Courbet’s sea and landscapes in relation to the other genres of painting in which Courbet worked. She will also discuss the influence Courbet’s painting had on the Impressionists and later generations of artists. “I was thrilled when Mary Morton accepted our invitation to lecture at the Arts Center,” says Arts Center Curator of Drawings Phaedra Siebert. “Dr. Morton is a specialist in the art and criticism of nineteenth-century France. She has made meaningful contributions to the body of Gustave Courbet scholarship. Her deep understanding of Courbet’s work and her easy lecturing style will bring our new acquisition to life.” Admission to the lecture is free. I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.
As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".
Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
