aac_mp_logoThe Arkansas Arts Center is seeking volunteer docents to give tours of the Arkansas Arts Center collection and special exhibitions.

Docent candidates must complete a training program before conducting tours and other programs.  Docent training will be held on Saturdays from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. beginning September 18, 2010, at the Arkansas Arts Center.  Docent training lasts 16 weeks (excluding holidays) and consists of a short art history class, hands-on experiences and tour training.  No prior knowledge or experience is required.

After docents complete training, they will give tours to school children and other groups, providing visitors with the opportunity to learn more about the arts.  Docents will also assist with education programs that are designed for schools, families and the general public.

“Being a docent is such an enriching experience and is a fun way to give back to the community,” said Curator of Education Louise Palermo.

For more information and to set up a preliminary interview, call the Curator of Education at 501-396-0367 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

An art gallery can be considered as a space which displays artworks. In art galleries one can see photographs, paintings, sculptures, installation arts, illustrations and much more. We can call it also as art museum in a way. Majority of the art galleries display paintings as their main medium.

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
