Jerry Colburn, artist and musician and Argenta resident, was interviewed extensively for an article about Elton and Betty White that appears in the current issue of Oxford American magazine, which is its annual Southern music issue. The article is by Kevin Brockmeier, an acclaimed author from Little Rock, and it focuses on the history and antics of the Whites, who were oddball fixtures of the Little Rock music scene through about 1991, when they moved to California. If you spent any amount of time in downtown Little Rock in the late '80s or early '90s, as I did, you no doubt saw them. Maybe they seranaded you with one of their fabulous songs, like "A Jelly Behind Woman Blows My Mind."

Jerry, it turns out, was one of the folks who helped Elton and Betty record their music and get it out to the people. Who knew? His insights on the Whites are very interesting and the article is exceptionally well-written. Plus, this issue comes with two CDs of awesome music that spans the South over many eras, including two Elton and Betty Songs. Well worth the trip to Barnes & Noble and the $10 cover price, I promise!

3f05293uThe WPA, according to my limited research did, of course with waste, confusion and the forever corruption of gov money, help kick start private industry.  My source reads that at least 85% went to wages and salaries.   Is it time for the fed gov to step in and give everyone a hand UP (not OUT) again? With this economy, many art advocates and magazines seem to think so. Example read-   http://readymade.com/article/poster_children/P0/ead

This is a call to all! mailbox 1.   Go out into your neighborhood and find the ugliest, most lame or otherwise tasteless Christmas extravaganza that Rudolph may have regurgitated upon someone's lawn.  2.  Snap a couple or so pictures capturing the display.  3.  Email me the pictures, and if you'd like comments.    4.   I'll post the pictures.   5.  You won't win anything except maybe a good butt kicking from your peaved neighbor.  Happy Holidays!

I found a Christmas Pig, so I tried to add it and lost one of Trishs' pics but check them out!

img_2543This is what is hoped to be the first of a long series of shallow observations into the art world.  I decided to channel my energy into being a philanthropists for the arts,  since winning so many internet Lucky lotteries, inheriting ginormous amounts of eros, American dollars and and unclaimed monies in unknown regions of Africa and Liberia and possibly receiving untold wealth if only  a few questions are answered.  Now independent of finances free to travel willy nilly and visit with all who will give me  the time of day.

Ok......so I guess your're wondering what this is about?? Well, I'm not too sure, except Brian said this morning "Are you going to write an article today?"  I said , yes...........and then Brian said not "My friend has a show here............... an article??"  So as Brian (who may be referred to as the big giant talking brain or BGTB........no just B for short) has explained on several occasions that I should just write like I'm having a conversation with someone, this is my attempt.  Warning young Will Robinson............. most of the time the other half of the conversation is ........"I have no idea what you're talking about".

So everything is talking in my head at once.....I have been thinking about the lousy economy and my artist friends, well everyone for that matter who is feeling the pinch.  The good news is that art sales seem to be getting better.........just like everything else a good discount really helps!

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
