A great opportunity for volunteers! THEA Foundation is preparing for new THEArtists Studio/Gallery Spaces. Volunteers are needed to paint and help prepare the studios and gallery space.

Time: 8am-5pm THEArtists Time Note: Volunteers can work a full day 8-5 or a morning or afternoon shift. Food will be provided! Serve the community! Have fun! Help BUILD the ARTS in Argenta!

Organized by the Arkansas Arts Center with the cooperation of the Arkansas Department of Education, the Young Arkansas Artists exhibition showcases artworks of all media created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade in Arkansas schools- both public and private.  Teachers across the state submitted 605 artworks for consideration.  A jury of 53 members of the Arkansas Arts Educators Association selected 142 artworks representing 72 schools and arts programs across Arkansas.

Awards for the Young Arkansas Artists 49th Annual Exhibition will be chosen by Win Bruhl, chairman of the Department of Art at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.   Bruhl will select one “Best of Class” and two “Honorable Mention” awards for each grade level.  Monetary awards, funded by Arkansas Children’s Hospital, are given to each winner’s school to support the funding of art programs.  Awards will be announced on April 7, 2010.

It was great to see everyone pull together and raise money to help a fellow artist in need.  Thanks to All of YOU the total raised to help Charlotte including, door, silent auction, drawings and cash donations came to Four thousand six hundred dollars!!   But more than the money you showed Charlotte how much she is loved and that is priceless!!  Thanks again!!

Gallery 26 was started by Renee Williams and Steve Ross in February of 1995. Renee graduated from Hendrix College in 1987 with an art degree, and learned picture framing from Mary Lambright at Make A Frame. When Mary closed her store, Renee and Steve were able to purchase her equipment and open their own place, adding an art gallery to it.

Renee had participated for years in small house art shows with a group of local artists. Those artists included Kevin Kresse, Kathy Strause, and James Hayes. It was an easy transition from house shows to an actual permanent gallery space.

Gallery 26 continues to show only Arkansas artists, but has grown to include over 70 of them. They include well known and up and coming artists in a variety of styles and mediums. The gallery shows jewelry artists, sculptors, painters, photographers, and glass blowers, and sells work in a variety of price ranges. We also continue to offer affordable picture framing, with a do-it-yourself option.

In 2001 Steve Ross moved to Memphis to pursue his sound design career and Daniel Broening came on board. Daniel is also an artist and graduate of the Art Institute of Houston. He developed and maintains the Gallery 26 website, frets over 90 degree angles and is solely to blame for any bizarre emails sent out to the mailing list.

Come celebrate (and have a piece of cake) with us on March 20, from 7 to 10pm. There will be a drawing for a door prize, food, beverages and live music.

Betty Johnson's painting, Mardi Growl was selected for display in the International "Exhibition on Animals"  to be held in the School of Veterinary Medicine Library at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.

Now in its' 23rd year there were 477 entries submitted for the show,  Mardi Growl was one of the 75 selected for the exhibit.   This is Betty's second year to have work  selected.

The show will open with a reception on Saturday, March 27th  at 6:00 p.m. in the Veterinary Medicine Library.  The exhibit closes April 25th.

Mardi Growl was previously exhibited at the Arti-Gras, a tastefully risque art show, held in Eureka Springs in February.
