pr_photo-_hi_res-629-1Carole Katchen, internationally known artist, will present a workshop called "How To Sell Art in Hard Times" Saturday, January 17 , 1-4 PM in Hot Springs at the Carole Katchen Gallery, 618 W. Grand Avenue. The cost is $35.

Katchen, who has sold her art for 45 years, will share marketing tips and lead exercises designed to increase marketing success during a weak economy. She will focus on enlarging your collector base, describing your own art, developing a personal approach and other marketing skills.

"There is less impulse buying during hard times," she says. "People think more about every purchase and they choose work that has a personal appeal. It is possible to sell art, but you have to adapt to the times."

Carole Katchen is the author of two books about art marketing, Promoting & Selling Your Art published by Watson-Guptill and How To Get Started Selling Your Art by North Light Books. She is author of a total of 17 books with sales over 1 million copies. Her art has been exhibited, published and sold in 32 countries. She has taught marketing workshops in universities and museums throughout the United States and Asia.

Printmaking Without a press
Woodcut Workshop
November 14, 5-8pm
November 15 & 26, 1-4pm
$150.00
All prints in this workshop will be printed by hand, offering an easy way to create beautiful black and white images at home or in the classroom without the use of a press or heavy equipment.
This three-day workshop is designed to give participants an introduction to relief printmaking. In this intensive workshop we will start with a brief overview of relief printmaking, which will include discussions on design, block preparation, tool care, and the selection of appropriate papers and inks. Participants will also be taught techniques that will emphasize the dramatic use of line and space.  Abstract or realistic, participants will prepare, in advance, a black and white drawing,  9 x 12 or slightly smaller for use in class.  This drawing will serve as a guide for a completed woodblock print.  No previous printmaking experience is necessary.  Participants will edition the prints created during this workshop.   The cost of this workshop is $150.00 per person, all materials included.  Enrollment will be limited to 6 people.

Your Canvas Junkie Host

I am your host at Canvas Junkie and work in several media. I design and make one of a kind sculpture you can wear or jewelry.

As well as paint, make found object sculpture and generally will chase after anything sparkly. When I was a teen my dad would introduce me as his daughter with the disclaimer of "You know artists are weird".

Now that I have seen many years of life pass by (I'm in denial about exactly how many)............. I'm happy to be known as an artist because....... life is just weird.
