Literacy Action of Central Arkansas
Presents Shine a Light on Literacy
LACA will “light up the night” of Feb. 19 with a glittering event. A special silent auction will cast an even brighter light on LACA’s important work as dozens of Arkansas artists create unique works of art from simple utilitarian lamps. Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009 6 p.m. The Arkansas Governor’s Mansion Grand Hall Literacy Action of Central Arkansas (LACA) is a volunteer-driven organization that teaches illiterate adults to read, and teaches oral and written English to non-native speakers. LACA provides services that change lives, families and our community. LACA enables personal empowerment for hundreds of individuals through direct, one-on-one experiential training.

The Chili with a Kick, charity kickball tournament and chili cook-off is a national adult kickball tournament and family event. The Little Rock Kickball Association (LRKA) is one of the largest independent adult kickball leagues in the country and has become an epicenter for the growth and development of kickball nation-wide. The fun starts 8:00 pm, Thursday, February 26th with a kick-off Party at Cornerstone Pub (Upstairs) located at 314 Main Street in the historic North Little Rock Argenta District where tournament guests and friends of kickball will enjoy door prizes, auction items, live music, food and fun. Chili Heads, Kickballers and Artists have designed and decorated a limited number of chili mugs which will be on display and offered for sale at Cornerstone Pub during the Kick Off Party. The next two days, Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st features the regional invitational charity kickball tournament and Chili Cook-Off. I had a great time painting mugs for the event! I hope you will all come out and party for a great cause! I believe tickets are $10, which includes music, food and fun!!!

What a great Show! After our big adventure in Eureka Springs on Friday, Brian opted not to attend (boy did he miss out!). I trekked off solo, I had visions of a quick tour and then home again, but once there I had trouble leaving. The space was filled with wonderful art everywhere, I had a great time looking at art and visiting with good friends and meeting some new ones!
All the work the volunteers put in definitely paid off, the new space and lighting let the art shine. If you didn't make the show be sure to stop in, the exhibit will be open for two weeks during the following hours: Monday-Friday: 12-2pm & 5-7pm; Saturday, February 21st: 12pm-4pm, Sun. Feb. 22nd closed. February 28th is the last day of the sale. Check out the pics maybe you stumbled into a frame or two.

A huge Thank you to Everyone responsible for arranging a great Show!! Brian and I attended The Love Show Opening Reception Friday night and it was Great!!! We truly enjoyed meeting Canvasjunkie members Paula Johnson and her daughter Elizabeth, Betty Johnson, as well as Carol Sarri and Steve Schmidt of Eureka Springs Artists Registry and all of the other artists and patrons.
The Eureka Artists Registry Showroom at 3b Dogwood Ridge, Eureka Springs, Ar, was alive with LOVE, from the art on the walls to the warm reception we received from everyone there. If you missed the reception be sure to make time to stop in before it closes on Sunday and experience great art in small packages! Choose an artistic expression of Love to give to your Valentine any day, crafted in several media from beautiful paintings to great handmade art dolls to glass art.
