WATERCOLOR COMES TO CLAY TIME STUDIO…..…January 16, during the Argenta ArtWalk, Clay Time Studio & Gallery (417 Main, NLR) will introduce the vibrant and expressive watercolors of ROBIN YOUNG. The artist will be in the studio from 5-8pm to talk with visitors about her paintings and about the classes she will teach at ClayTime beginning February 9. Classes are for adults who want to explore watercolor, explore and expand their creativity, and have a lot of fun! A professional artist for 20 years, Robin has a been a teacher and trainer for 16, teaching watercolor workshops throughout the country, and developing creativity seminars for government and corporate clients. Her paintings have been sold by numerous galleries, including her own Robin Young Studio Gallery in Shepherdstown WV and each summer at her studio gallery on Monhegan Island, Maine. By invitation, she has exhibited at art festivals throughout the East Coast and served as Artist in Residence in Grand Teton National Park and Hot Springs National Park. In 2006 Robin moved her studio to Malvern, Arkansas, spending two years renovating her grandparent’s farm where she now lives, works, teaches and cares for her three horses, seven dogs and five cats. (LITTLE ROCK, AR) – The Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre presents Three Blind Mice, on stage January 30 – February 15, 2009. The Children’s Theatre season is sponsored by Target and the Marcus Worth Logue and Richard M. Logue, M.D. Memorial Gift. Media is sponsored by Little Rock Family magazine.
Three Blind Mice is a contemporary telling of the popular Mother Goose nursery rhyme. In the play, three young mice set out in search of cheese in the Big Kitchen World. They also want to find out if the old song about the awful famer’s wife is true. When these adventurous mice find themselves trapped, the most unlikely hero comes to their rescue.

(LITTLE ROCK, AR) – The Arkansas Arts Center will host a lecture with internationally known architectural photographer Tim Hursley on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at 6 p.m. in the Arkansas Arts Center Lecture Hall. Admission is free.
Hursley will discuss his background in photography, his career in documenting architecture and his artistic objective. He will also discuss the works in the exhibition Factories: Warhol, Sex and Disasters / Photographs by Tim Hursley, on view through February 1, 2009.

January 17th through March 7th 2009: Affirmations of a Caffeine Addict. Kevin Kerby's morning meditations of a life in misfire adorn his series of coffee mugs made out of acrylic paint, pencil, paper and plywood. If you've been longing for validation as #2 Dad, or Best Weekend Father, now's your chance. Amanda Linn presents her Three Ring Utopia which include a series of house-like constructions using reclaimed wood, kitchen drawers and other found objects, where less than desirable habits would be king. Also included is a photo essay documenting the residents of a planned community of tin dollhouses. Smiling lambs lie down with squeaky lions while flocked rabbits pull carts of plastic fruit, all in glorious 21st century Technicolor.

(LITTLE ROCK, AR) – The Arkansas Arts Center will present a “conversation” with Jamie Bennett as part of the Friends of Contemporary Craft annual lecture series on Sunday, January 18, 2009, at 6 p.m. in the Arkansas Arts Center Lecture Hall.
Bennett, whose use of highly saturated color has transformed the enamel jewelry world, will discuss how the work of metalsmith Robert Ebendorf and non-western traditions influenced his development as an artist. He will also discuss his works in the Arkansas Arts Center exhibition Edge of the Sublime: Enamels by Jamie Bennett.

The Ozark Arts Council will celebrate art, architecture, and heritage during its' annual fundraiser, Saturday, February 28, beginning at 6 p.m. The theme of this year's event will be One Night in '29, and will incorporate theater, dance, art, music and film, while capturing the social, artistic, and cultural dynamism of the Roaring Twenties. The event will take place in two of Harrison's historically significant buildings, the Lyric Theater and Hotel Seville, both built in 1929. Guests will enjoy food, drinks, music, dance, and a silent and live auction. Attendees are encouraged to dress in 1920s style clothing. Tickets are $50 per person with all proceeds benefiting the Ozark Arts Council and its mission to promote the arts in North Arkansas. Sponsorships, donations of items for the auctions, and volunteers are all needed. The Ozark Arts Council is a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching lives by promoting the arts in Harrison and North Arkansas.
