(LITTLE ROCK, AR) – The Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre will present Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood January 20 – February 5, 2012. Performances are held Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood take the stage together in this exciting musical production. These two classic stories are told by a friendly, ever‐present quartet of singers that perform fun and catchy tunes written by Children’s Theatre composer Lori Isner. “In this adaptation of Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood, we have approached these two very old stories in a new and fresh way,” said Artistic Director Bradley Anderson. “We have used music as a way to make the wolf and bears less threatening and more, well, just plain humorous. The musical element of our adaptation is more than just a silly way to tell some once‐scary stories. Rather, it gives the play a universal appeal and is a delight for audiences of all ages.” The cast for Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood features: Rachel Haislip as Goldilocks; Anna Holman as Mama Bear; Mark Hansen as Papa Bear; Mattingly Bartole as Baby Bear; Katherine Campbell as Little Red Riding Hood; Mark Hansen as Mother; Josh Rice as Bill the Wolf; Aleigha Morton as Grandma; Nate Buursma as Woodcutter; and Paige Herschell, Christopher Straw, Vanessa Sterling and Chad Bradford as Singers. Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood is adapted by Bradley Anderson and directed by Alan Keith Smith with scene design also by Alan Keith Smith, music by Lori Isner, props design by Miranda Young, costume design by Erin Larkin and lighting design by Adam Britt. Jimi Brew is the technical director for the production, and Sinovia Mayfield is the production stage manager. Stephen Cefalo
I was born in the hometown of Albrecht Durer on the birthday of Winslow Homer, Charles Le Brun, and Franz Von Stuck, so I already had my work cut out for me. My two sisters and I were raised in Newburgh, Indiana by a single mother who worked full-time at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant. I had trouble in school, but found comfort in drawing. My aunt Marilyn gave me oil painting lessons at twelve, and my mom bought me books on figure drawing and supplies when she found them.
During my undergraduate studies at the former Savannah Campus of the School of Visual Arts I found mentors in Jeff Markowsky and Anthony Palliser. When SVA Savannah closed its doors in 1997, I was already married with my first child, and moved to the main campus in New York. There I studied with one of my heroes, Steven Assael, and Max Ginsburg. After graduation I continued to study privately with Assael while working in Soho as an assistant painter for Jeff Koons and later in Time Square as an in-house illustrator at Nickelodeon. We left New York shortly after the September 11th attacks and decided to move back to Indiana. I completed my graduate studies in Painting in 2004 at Indiana University in Bloomington. There I worked closely Bonnie Sklarski, who also became a mentor figure to me.
After teaching for two years at the Art academy of Cincinnati, I accepted an offer for a three-year position as Artist in Residence for University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s Painting department. My wife Amy who is a homebirth midwife, our six children, and I have assimilated well here, and we have decided to stay in Arkansas. I am represented locally at Gallery 26 and by Ann Nathan Gallery in Chicago.
