LITTLE ROCK, AR) – The Arkansas Arts Center announces the award winners for the 54th Annual Delta Exhibition. The exhibition will be held in the Townsend Wolfe Gallery January 27 – March 28, 2012. Juror Tom Butler, director of the Columbus Museum, Columbus, Ga., selected one Grand Award, two Delta Awards and eight Honorable Mentions out of the 54 works represented in the 54th Annual Delta Exhibition. The Arkansas Arts Center Contemporaries, a young professional group dedicated to supporting the arts, also selected a Contemporaries Delta Award and two Contemporaries Delta Honorable Mentions.
Rod Moorhead from Oxford, Miss., was awarded the Grand Award for his work titled 9 Zen Nuns. David Bailin of Little Rock, Ark., received a Delta Award for his work titled Cars. A Delta Award was also awarded to Keliy Anderson-Staley of Russellville, Ark., for her work titled Helen. The artists David Bogus, Marian Doville, Stephen Harris, Dixie Knight, Benjamin Krain, Zeek Taylor, John Willer and Kat Wilson received an Honorable Mention. The Arkansas Arts Center Contemporaries awarded the Contemporaries Delta Award to Mark Lewis of Tulsa, Okla., for his work titled Peoria Ave. #5. Keith Melton of North Little Rock, Ark., received a Contemporaries Delta Honorable Mention for his work titled Virgil Lawrence, Google Portrait. Louis Watts of Little Rock, Ark., also received a Contemporaries Delta Honorable Mention for his work titled Untitled VIII: from the Apoptosis Series. Established in 1958, the Delta Exhibition of Painting and Sculpture features contemporary works by artists from Arkansas and the bordering states. The Delta Exhibition has grown to encompass works in all media and displays the dynamic vision of the artists of the Mississippi Delta region. The Delta Exhibition is open to all artists who live in or were born in one of the following states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas. The 54th Annual Delta Exhibition is sponsored by Janet and Sam Alley. The Grand Award is supported by The John William Linn Endowment Fund. The exhibition is supported by the Andre Simon Memorial Trust in memory of everyone who has died of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). The Ketz Gallery will feature the recent work of Sulac on December 16 through December 30. An opening reception will be held on Friday, December 16, 5-8pm in conjunction with 3rd Friday Argenta Art Walk. Holiday desserts and beverages will be served.
Participants will have a chance to meet the artist and view more than twenty pieces of his work on display and for sale. Sulac, a favorite artist of the Gallery and the Little Rock area, is known for his edgy style with mixed-media pieces. Using oil, acrylic and paper, he creates collages and whimsical paintings.
In addition to Sulac, more than 30 local artists are on display at the Ketz Gallery located at 705 Main in the Argenta Arts District, downtown North Little Rock. The Gallery is open Tuesday - Friday 11:30 am - 5pm, Saturday, 11:30 am - 3:00 pm and by appointment. Call 529-6330 for more information. |
